I am of the belief that everyone in life has a kryptonite.
That one thing that, no matter what it is, has a hold over you.
It clouds your judgement.
It makes sensible financial decisions… difficult.
It corrupts your rational brain and encourages behaviour that could be considered detrimental to your current — or future — lifestyle.
In extreme cases, it can even block the future you’re aiming for.
I have one such kryptonite.
Actually… I have two.
But we’ll start with the first.
Those of you who watch my streams — cheeky plug to all CraicAttackCentral channels (Linktree link here) — will already know what it is.
WWE.
This brand, this sport, this genre has such a hold over me that in another life I am convinced I would have become a wrestler. If there is an event within reach, every fibre of my being wants to go.
So far I’ve managed to attend a few across our mighty European islands.
From house shows here in Ireland with S — aka The Leg Model (if you know, you know).
To the original Clash in the Castle in the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales where 62,215 people from all over the world joined for the true start of the generational talent known as Dirty Dominik Mysterio with a different S aka The Bán (again…. if you know, you know).
And to the second WWE PLE in France aka Clash in Paris and it’s follow-up Raw with 30,343 at the Paris La DĂ©fense Arena in Nanterre, France because why not be specific about the section of Paris. Where Leg joined me for the PLE, convinced me to go on the Eiffel Tower and left me for the Monday Night Raw where we had a situations of doing the AJ Styles chant for OVER 15 minutes. Gawd I love Wrestling and it’s fans
So why do I mention any of this
Simple.
Recently, Leg, Bán and I were discussing the newly announced Clash in Italy which will be held at the Inalpi Arena in Turin, Italy and like a 2 year old in a candy shop I want to go.
It was funny during the conversation something interesting happened. The matter of price came into the equation.
For me that was never a question, I had never been to Italy ,never mind Turin.
It would be the first PLE in the country so the crowd would be electric, it would have a rumoured 18000 people at it which meant the tickets would sell-out monstrously fast.
My instinct was simple:
- Buy the ticket immediately.
- Figure everything else out later.
Leg and Bán, however, approached it like rational adults and said they’d need to see the price first.
Strange behaviour!
It got me thinking what was my boundary, what was the line at which I wouldn’t consider going to the event. Whilst having a gym session with one Gavin Meenan (Instagram link). That answer became painfully clear.
My limit… isn’t the ticket price. It was anything that took me away from work.
Yeah Da Craic is a cheap boy and The idea of losing income is apparently more powerful than WWE itself.
So in truth I have TWO Kryptonites, WWE and being cheap
Now some of you might already see where this story is going. Because recently the conversation shifted to the Granddaddy of Them All…
Why were we discussing WrestleMania?
Well, interestingly enough, ticket sales this year haven’t been the strongest. The host location is also going through a bit of a tourism downturn, which has caused something very rare in the wrestling travel world:
Prices have dropped.
Not cheap — let’s not get crazy. However, cheaper.
Flights are down.
Accommodation is down.
Tickets have dipped.
Which led to a dangerous question.
Why not go?
Why not go to Las Vegas?
I had never been.
It would be an incredible experience.
It would honour the promise I made in my first post of the year — to see more of the world.
It’s been a childhood dream.
It was everything I wanted. However there was a problem.
It would require time off work.
Enter Gavin Meenan, stage left. Like a Mania Entrance itself he came with the big guns and stated
“You only live once and work/money will always be around the corner.”– Gavin Meenan
Then as the responsible person in this conversation he added
“and you have a safety net” – Gavin Meenan
So this April, for the first time ever…
I’ll be heading to Las Vegas.
All I had to do was defeat one of my kryptonites.
Now I just need to defeat it again…
So I can buy those Turin tickets.
But hey.
Little steps, my friends, Little Steps
Slán go fóill! And Póg mo Thóin! My Craic Addicts!
